Civil Rights
Rosa ParksKnown as the mother of the civil rights movement. She refused to give up her seat to a white passenger in 1955. The bus driver had her arrested and she was tried and convicted of violating a local ordanance. Eventually her act led to the U.S. decision outlawing segragation on city buses.
The Black Panther Party Formed by Bobby Seale and Huey Newton in 1966, its goal was to protect communities from racial violence. They ran medical clinics and provided kids free breakfast before school.
Jackie RobinsonHe was one of the first African-Americans to join major league baseball.He faced a large amount of discrimination but was eventually inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. His legacy is remembered through his picture on a postage stamp.
Martin Luther King Jr.He was the leader of the Civil Rights Movement in America in the mid 1950's. He promoted non-violent actions to achieve civil rights reform. In 1964 he was awarded the Noble Peace Prize. In 1968 Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated.
Montgomery Bus BoycottThis was a pivital point in the Civil Rights Movement. It began when Rosa Parks refused to giver her seat up to a white man on a bus. Her actions led to the black community boycotting the bus system.
