Though the topic of the resource is titled Associative/Imitative/Observation learning, this actually overlaps with the term "Behaviorism" now used in psychology to describe the viewpoint that all behavior is learned and not due to other factors. Behaviorism is a theory of learning based on the idea that the study of behavior should be a natural science, such as chemistry or physics. The theory argues that all behaviors are acquired through conditioning. Conditioning occurs through interaction with the environment. Behaviorism believes that only by studying behavior could psychology achieve the reliability and generality it needed to become a natural science. There is no classification generally agreed upon but some titles given to the various branches of behaviorism include: Classical Conditioning, Operational conditioning and Social Theory. However, it was unable to account for many behaviors. Though it was en vogue for many decades, it took only one articulate article from Noam Chomsky to cause the screeching halt of the behavorism movement. Locke was a major figure in Associative learning. He believed that children were born as a blank slate ("tabula rosa") and therefore all forms of learning were due to the environment.
Ivan Pavlov (1849-1936)

Bandura (who still teaches at Stanford!) is still a major figure inlearning, having significantly expanded social learning theory/social cognitive theory. He was able to stradle the break from Behaviorism to Cognition and has a mix of both in his theories. He is responsible for theories such as social learning, desentization and efficacy.
Pavlov's research into the physiology of digestion led him logically to create a science of conditioned reflexes. In his study of the reflex regulation of the activity of the digestive glands, he established the basic laws for the establishment and extinction of what he called "conditional reflexes".
John Watson is often referred to as the "father of behaviorism.According to Watson, psychology should be the science of observable behavior.Watson set the stage for behaviorism, which soon rose to dominate psychology.
He conducted pioneering work in psychology and innovated his own school of Radical Behaviorism, which seeks to understand behavior as a function of environmental histories of reinforcing consequences. He is known as the inventor of the operant conditioning chamber
