Wherever there was a running stream, there used to dwell fireflies. Therewas a time in the past when people were more willing to live alongside nature. But streams and rivers died when their beds and banks were paved with concrete to control their flow. Nature was lost and fireflies left. One day, people stopped to look around. They finally notice the fact that where fireflies could not survive, humans could not live as well.Today, in the planning of new construction, better attention is paid to preserving nature. Due to such care, fireflies, for example, have come back. Now, many fireflies are dancing along small streams near my home. After supper, we go firefly watching. This is one of the typical images of the summer season. We used to enjoy an elegant game of how many fireflies we could gather in our Yukata sleeves. An old Chinese legend tells of people gathering fireflies to make lanterns for reading. Fireflies occasionally pass through my garden. I am quite satisfied with such a life, daily surrounded by the small creatures of nature. (2009/6/4)蛍狩りの季節ですね。かすかに点滅する光は私たちを幻想の世界に誘ってくれます。以前は小さな流れには蛍がいましたが川岸がコンクリートで固められ川が死んでしまい蛍も消えてしまいました。ある日人々は蛍が棲めないような所には人間も住めないのだということに気付きました。最近は環境保護の機運も高まり蛍が川に戻ってくるようになりました。我が家の近くの小川でもたくさんの蛍が飛び交っています。夕食の後などに蛍見物に出かけます。これぞ夏の風物詩ですね。浴衣の袖の中に蛍をたくさん入れて遊んだりしたものです。我が家の庭にもときどき蛍が飛んできます。自然の小さな生き物に囲まれて幸せな日々を送っています。Scroll down to view the old pages.Cormorant Fishing on the Mikuma River,Hita city,Oita 2009/6/7In commemoration of Father's Day, we visited Hita city on June 7 and stayed at Sanyoukan hotel. I had thought Yusen is Japanese word , everyone know it . I have a shock . It is a boat that you enjoyed cormorant fishing. We call Yusen . as 遊船　　in Japanese. I like this name . but when it translates inEnglish it 's a boat . so I 'll send my friend a photo of Yusen. Thank you for everything.Dear Senko, thank you very much for your quick explanation about the word "Yusen." Unfortunately, I haven't been aware of the fact that Yusen is a Japanese. I guess it's a kind of "leisure boat" or "dinner boat.On cormorant fishing,the fisherman rowed his boat around the guest's ship closely and explained an interesting story of cormorant. Baby cormorant is captured in the sea and taken into training for at least three years. The trained cormorant makes a couple for fishing. As you may see on the picture above, there are three couples and alone cormorant. The alone bird will find his or her couple if available. The longevity of the cormorant is about 18 years. (June 15) That 's really interesting story I see the couple a peacefully . I hope that alone cormorant could met a good partoner early. Cormorant 's job is very hard .
