Civil Rights by Brandon's Nota on NotaThe Selma MarchOn sunday March 7, 1965, 600 African Americans started to march 54 miles. Police fired tear gas at the marchers and started to attack them with clubs, chains, and electric caddle prods. The march would resume on March 9, and Martin Luther King would lead the group.Jackie RobinsonCivil RightsJackie was the first African American to play Major League Baseball. He played for the Brooklyn Dodgers. So many people wanted to see him succeed and also fail. Martin Luther King Jr.Martin was a minister of a local Baptist Church. He was the leader of the Montgomery bus boycott and then became leader of the SCLC. He is most remembered for his help in the Civil Rights movement.Montgomery bus boycottThe NAACP recognized the opportunity presented by Rosa Parks' Arrest. They ordered a bus boycott and 90% of African Americans stayed off the bus. This formed the Montgomery Improvement Association.Rosa ParksRosa was arrested after rusing to give up her seat to a white passenger. She was on her way home from work and was sitting in the section reserved for the African Americans and once the white section was full they wanted her to give up her seat.
